The Mazeppa Bay Hotel is a relaxed, 3-star family-oriented establishment in one of the most beautiful and peaceful places on earth: Mazeppa Bay on the Wild Coast of South Africa's Eastern Cape Province in the area known as the former Transkei.
Mazeppa Bay is remote - no shopping malls within a radius of 60 km, so if you need to recharge your batteries, this is the place to be. While laid-back and casual, the Hotel is Highly Recommended by the South African Automobile Association.
The town, Mazeppa Bay, was named after the Mazeppa, a British ship that ran aground here in 1842. Legend has it that the shipwreck is still buried beneath the sand dunes - but that is unconfirmed.
Guests at the Mazeppa Bay Hotel can choose between family or double rooms, budget-friendly rondavels as well as a two honeymoon suites. All rooms are en suite and none of the rooms have TV, telephones or air-conditioning - just to make the point that you are now in a peaceful, remote place. The reasonable rates at the Mazeppa Bay Hotel include three delicious home-cooked meals per day, with highlights being the seafood dinner on Saturday and the mini-seafood dinner on Wednesdays. The "Seaview" and "Red Blanket" Bars offer refreshing drinks.
You will have plenty to do at the Mazeppa Bay Hotel and its beautiful surroundings. There is a suspension bridge for the brave hearts, excellent fishing spots (you can buy tackle and bait at the hotel, and hire rods and reels, and the Hotel has its own registered boat launch on the beach), many bird species to look out for, swimming, a spectacular beach, as well as the Manubi Forest with its eerie silences.
The facilities at the Mazeppa Bay Hotel include a swimming pool, hiking, mountain biking, tennis court, steam room and gym, table tennis, pool and snooker tables, volley ball on the beach, DSTC in the lounge, as well as a kiddies playground and trampoline. They also offer a laundry service as well as baby-sitting (this must be organised prior to arrival).
